Rick Burleson
Architect Emeritus
Founding Principal
Rick Burleson’s roots run deep in South Texas, where the rugged ranches, brush country, and orange groves of his childhood inspired a lifelong passion for rural architecture. Drawn to design from an early age, Rick pursued his studies at Texas A&M University, earning a degree in Environmental Design and completing his Master of Architecture in 1979. By 1981, he had achieved Texas Architectural Registration and NCARB Certification.
In 1992, Rick founded his architectural practice in Austin, later relocating to Wimberley in 2004 to focus on crafting ranch homes and family retreats that reflect the beauty of Texas’ rural landscapes. With the talented team at Burleson Design Group, Rick has dedicated his career to designing homes that honor the land and create enduring spaces for families to gather.
Rick and his wife of 47 years, Barbara, reside on a hilltop in Wimberley, where they enjoy life close to their grandchildren. When not at his drafting table, Rick can often be found hiking, backpacking, or exploring the Great Outdoors — pursuits that continue to inform his connection to nature and his design philosophy.
Tommy Horine, AIA
Managing Principal
Tommy joined Burleson Design Group in 2014, bringing his passion for residential architecture to the Texas Hill Country. Tommy has been involved in a decade of projects with Burleson Design Group, starting as a college intern and progressively advancing to become senior project manager for several of our more complex projects. His talent and dedication have flourished, culminating in his promotion to Managing Principal in 2024. By 2025, he had achieved Texas Architectural Registration.
Tommy Horine’s love for architecture began at an early age, sparked by his fascination with the floor plans and elevation drawings of Frank Lloyd Wright. Growing up in the heart of Illinois, Tommy honed his interest in design at Illinois Central College’s School of Architecture, where he built a strong foundation in the fundamentals of the craft. In 2011, he relocated to Texas to complete his education at the University of Texas at San Antonio, graduating at the top of his class in architecture.
When not designing homes, Tommy enjoys spending time with his family exploring local “kid-friendly” breweries, tackling bouldering routes, and indulging in Brazilian barbecue with friends as often as possible.
